Cold bent unequal angle steel (GB 6273 -86)
Cold bent unequal angle steel, also known as GB 6273-86, is a type of steel with two legs of unequal length, and a 90° angle between them. It is commonly used in the construction of reinforced steel structures, and is a type of rolled steel angle produced with cold rolling techniques.
The advantage of cold bent unequal angle steel is that it can be used for all types of welded, bolted and riveted fabrications, and it can easily be welded and formed for use in a vast array of applications. This type of steel is also more accurate than hot-rolled steel angle due to its cold forming process, offering more precise dimensions and avoiding costly waste in production.
In terms of its composition, cold bent unequal angle steel is usually produced from mild steel and contains elements such as iron and manganese. It is also nearly always produced with a specific finish, such as black sheet and galvanizing, to help prevent corrosion.
The manufacturing of cold bent unequal angle steel starts with a flat sheet that is then punched into an angle shape. Once the shape is achieved, the sheet is then rolled into the correct angle, with the two legs of the angle being of unequal length. After this, the angle is passed through a series of rollers which cold-crush the angle into the desired dimensions.
The two unequal legs of the cold bent unequal angle steel are also of different thicknesses. The thicker leg is the base leg, which is usually 3 to 5 mm, while the thinner leg is the flange leg, which is usually 2 to 4 mm. Both legs are then cut to length and the angle is then drilled for bolting or welding.
