Large Caliber Liquid Nitrogen Container
Large caliber liquid nitrogen containers are crucial in laboratory for the safe storage of liquid nitrogen. GB 14174-93 is the first set of national standard for the technical requirements and test methods for the large caliber liquid nitrogen containers (hereinafter referred to as containers). This standard was drafted by Shanghai Institute of Gas Industry Co., Ltd.
GB 14174-93 specifies the scope, features, types, technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules of containers. It applies to containers which have a nominal volume of 30L~ 250L. Containers shall be made of high-strength, low-temperature resistant alloy with a wall thickness of ≥ 2.0 mm. Their cryogenic performance and safe operation should meet the criteria set by this standard.
The containers should pass an electronic leak check before release. Ultrasonic test and metallographic test should follow the technical requirements of GB 11100 and the diameter of the weld root shall be at least 2.0 mm. When they are to be installed, the use instructions should be clearly stated and the relevant safety instructions must be followed.
The standard also sets requirements for periodic quality control, unqualified containers must be withdrawn from sale, and containers should be inspected every two years as prescribed. In order to ensure the quality of the containers, a variety of tests must be conducted, including technical parameters and non-destructive inspection.
GB 14174-93 also puts out the basic principles and methods for judging the functional features and performance characteristics of containers. This standard provides a uniform standard for quality assurance, which requires the manufacturer to use appropriate elements to build and control the production process.
