Maintenance of Mechanical Seals on Pumps
The mechanical seal is an indispensable and important part of the pump. It is necessary to correctly grasp the maintenance of mechanical seal in order to effectively improve the service life of pump and reduce cost.
In order to better maintain the mechanical seal, it is necessary to preset a reasonable storage period and maintenance period. The detail of the storage and maintenance period will depend on the mechanical seal type. However, for the most common mechanical seals, the general maintenance cycle is 12 months.
In addition, the temperature of the mechanical seal should be kept between 15-40℃, and the humidity should be kept between 55-85%. After the mechanical seal is mounted on the pump, remove all dust, dirt, oil film and other impurities from the seal.
At the same time, the mechanical seal preload shall be checked after the initial two weeks of usage to ensure that the mechanical seal does not overheat or leak in the early stage. After two months of regular use, the surface of the seal should be inspected to ensure that there is no distortion or cracking. The torque of the fastening parts should also be checked.
In addition, the O-ring of the mechanical seal must be kept clean, and if oil or dust accumulates on the O-ring, it should be replaced periodically. The O-ring must be carefully inspected to ensure that there is no aging, cracking or any other defect. The temp, sealing pressure, pump speed and other parameters should be monitored regularly to ensure smooth operation of the mechanical seal.
Once a problem is found, the mechanical seal should be dismantled and repaired. The collected dust should be cleaned, and the parts should be scrubbed with a soft brush to ensure their cleanliness without any pressure or distortion. After the inspection, the parts should be reassembled according to the correct installation process.
Finally, periodic maintenance of the mechanical seal will prolong the service life of the pump and reduce production costs in the long run. Before each use, the mechanical seal should be examined for performance, and operators must pay attention to the maintenance and repair of mechanical seals in order to ensure safe and efficient operation.
