Continuous hot rolling steel strip plants are generally composed of a roughing mill, a finishing mill, rolling and cooling as well as a winding and control system. The main elements of the roughing mill are: receipt, degreasing, entrance end, provisional stands, upper spindles and middle spindles, vertical and horizontal grooves, exit end, pickling, and cooling line.

The discharge end of the roughing mill is connected to the entrance end of the finishing mill. In the finishing mill, the hot rolled coil is rolled in stages with decreasing width. As the strip passes through the rolls, it is increasingly bent and twisted, which requires ever increasing tension in the winder that accompanies it. The main element of the finishing mill is composed of: entrance end, provisional stands, upper and lower spindles, vertical and semi-vertical grooves, exit end, roll cooling and roll heating etc.

After the hot rolling process, the steel strips are rolled to the desired length and edged. After edging, the strips are transported to the winding line, where the steel strips are wound into coils and then transported to the warehouse for further processing and packaging. The winding line usually consists of flying shear, entry table, traversing carriage, reeling/unreeling stands, pay-off/take-up device, table winder, roll removal station etc.

The most important part of the whole process is the control system. It is responsible for controlling the entire line, and it consists of core components such as the transmission system, motor control system, data collector, console, and other components. It is mainly responsible for the transmission and control of rolling parameters, data collection and real-time monitoring, and control of the entire production line.
