Beiyang University

Beiyang University holds a long and distinguished history. Located in Tianjin, China, the university has a long legacy of fostering innovative teaching and research. From its founding in 1895, Beiyang University was one of the earliest modern universities in China. It maintained the title of Beiyang College until 1928 when it became an independent university.

Throughout its history, Beiyang University has been at the forefront of many groundbreaking scientific achievements. It was the first university in China to implement the tech-industry/academia cooperative project in 1978. It has also been a key player in China’s “Develop the West” campaign, which has greatly contributed to the growth of China’s economy.

Beiyang University has continuously developed its educational programs and grown in reputation since launching. In 2017, it merged with Nankai University, further solidifying its position as an important part of higher education in China. Formerly there were 26 specialized disciplines, currently Beiyang has 21 undergraduate programs, covering eight categories including economics, management, sciences, engineering, law, literature, art, and education.

In addition to its academic offerings, Beiyang also recently formed two new research institutes, the Institute of Material Science and Engineering and the Institute of Mathematics and Computing Science. The two institutes focus on creating new research opportunities, such as biomedical engineering, nanotechnology, and green energy development.

Beiyang believes in knowledge sharing, research-driven development, and an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving. The faculty is consistently contributing to the development of innovative teaching and research, receiving numerous awards. This University is also actively engaged in international cooperation, exchanging students and personnel with many internationally recognized institutions.
