Rolling Mill Technology Parameters

Rolling mills, also known as roll presses, are used to reduce material size by passing a material through two or more rolls, each with different shapes, or with a combination of shape and color. The purpose of a rolling mill is to reduce the thickness of a material, usually metal, and to produce level surfaces with a minimum of distortion. There are two basic types of rolling mill technology: flat and universal.

Flat Rolling Mills have constant pressure on the rolls and are used to reduce thickness in a wide range of materials. Depending on the application, they may use different roll configurations (two roll, three roll, four roll, etc.) as well as various roll materials (cast iron, steel, etc.). Rolling temperatures are an important factor in ensuring the material is uniform and is maintained within a given range.

Universal Rolling Mills use multiple roll configurations, allowing them to reduce the thickness of irregular shapes and to produce tube, spiral, and other complex geometries. This is possible because the roll spindles are independently adjustable and can be moved to change the contact area with the material. Also, advanced lubrication systems help ensure even surface qualities when rolling for longer periods of time.

Rolling mills can produce non-symmetrical shapes by using different roll geometries. The rolls also define the shape of the material and can be used to create large diameter or complex shapes by using a combination of different profiles. This can be used to mount the material on a support for drawing or to create recesses for structural integrity or to shape a surface so that it will interact better with other components.

In addition to material thickness, rolling mills are also used to adjust grain size, to reduce surface roughness, and to improve surface finish. This is achieved by changing roll speed, tension, and the number of passes through the mill. Properly adjusted speed and tension help maintain stability throughout the process.

Rolling mill technology is used in a range of industries, such as metals fabrication, automotive, aerospace and consumer products. With its flexible design, modern rolling mills eliminate downtime and introduce more efficient work methods. They are reliable and require minimal setup and maintenance. As such, they are gaining popularity in many industries where reliability and quality are paramount.
