API 5L Seamless Steel Pipe Technology Test

API 5L steel pipe, which stands for American Petroleum Institute, is the American standard of the seamless steel pipes utilized in the oil pipeline transportation systems and other large scale industry areas. API 5L standard is mainly used to deliver oil, gas and water to the urban and industry area. This standard is specially designed for the transportation systems of oil and natural gas.

API 5L standard is well known as the most used standard in the seamless steel pipes and it has undergone rigorous testing in order to ensure its quality and comply with the international standards. The standard has been tested and proven by many laboratories including the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), ASTM international, and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). In order to make sure the quality of this steel pipe, the API 5L standard requires that the pipe be subjected to a rigorous laboratory test, the GB/T 8162-1999.

The GB/T 8162-1999 test is mainly used for the determination of the axial tensile strength and yield strength of the API 5L seamless steel pipe. It is conducted by testing many thicknesses of steel pipes samples with different diameters. Compliance with this test is essential in order to guarantee the quality of the API 5L steel pipe.

The visual test is done to visually inspect the surface of the API 5L steel pipe for any visible signs of flaws and blemishes. The inspection is done with the help of a special microscope that magnifies the appearance of any minor issues on the pipe surface.

The magnetic particle test is done to evaluate the thickness of the API 5L steel pipe. Special magnetic instruments are used to interact with the pipe surface and then measure the maximum magnetic field strength as a result. This is then used to calculate the thickness of the pipe and make sure it is within the allowable limits set by the API 5L standard.

The hardness test is done to measure the hardness of the API 5L steel pipe. A special apparatus is then used to measure the hardness of the pipe and determine if the pipe is within the limits set by the API 5L standard.
