Carbon Electrodes are commonly used in electrochemical systems to conduct electricity from an Applied voltage and to provide an electrolytic reaction site. This paper reviews literature regarding the electrochemical properties of Carbon electrodes including potentials, electrode kinetics, and electrochemical measurements.

Potential is determined by the electrode reaction and internal friction. Carbon electrodes have properties that allow them to supply current as well as undergo a reaction. The electrode potential depends on the type of material used to create the electrode. Different types of materials used to construct the electrode such as carbon, graphite, or diamond, can cause variations in the electrode potential.
