Construction and Acceptance Specification for Grounding Devices
GB 50169-92
Introduction
This specification, in compliance with GB 50169-92, is set up with reference to the Code for Lightning Protection of Buildings (GBJ 135-2006). The specification has been devised by the Ministry of Construction and other departments concerned and is applicable to the construction of lightning protection grounding devices and their acceptance inspection. The present specification is applicable to buildings and other projects in which the lightning protection grounding devices are required according to the Lightning Protection Code (GBJ 135-2006).
1 General
1.1 This specification applies to the construction and acceptance inspection of lightning protection grounding devices which are required according to the Lightning Protection Code (GBJ 135-2006).
1.2 This specification involves the construction of buried cables and plates and their connection assembly, inspection and acceptance, as well as the testing.
1.3 The construction of other ground-to-ground connection devices (also known as grounding distribution devices) shall conform to the corresponding national standards.
2 Grounding Device Selection Principles
2.1 The grounding device selection shall be based on the design purpose, construction static conditions, soil conductivity and other factors, proper grounding methods shall be determined accordingly.
2.2 The main grounding device shall be a buried cable or a buried plate, and it shall be connected to the main body of the lightning protection grounding device, and other subsidiary grounding devices shall also be connected on the basis of certain requirements.
2.3 The grounding device shall be able to conduct lightning current effectively and continuously and disperse current across the device.
2.4 The grounding device shall be designed with a large enough size to drain the current it receives, and to prevent the grounding resistance from rising when lightning current passes through it.
3 Construction Principles
3.1 The layouts and materials of the grounding devices shall conform to the corresponding design drawings and requirements.
3.2 No soil shall remain in the pit after the construction of the grounding ground pits and the installation of the grounding devices.
3.3 The ground pits in rocky soil shall be backfilled with the same rock materials for the purpose of compaction.
4 Acceptance Inspection
4.1 Visual inspection
4.1.1 The visual inspection shall be conducted to ensure that the grounding device layout and installation comply with the requirements of the design drawings and specifications.
4.1.2 The visual inspection shall also be conducted for the electrical connection of the grounding device, to ensure that the connection is firm and reliable.
4.2 Resistance Test
4.2.1 The resistance of the grounding device shall be measured by using a high voltage tester in conformity with the requirements of GBJ 135-2006.
4.2.2 The resistance should be measured repeatedly until the measured results converge.
4.2.3 The resistance of the grounding device should be controlled within the range stated by the Lightning Protection Code.
Conclusion
This specification provides requirements and procedures for the construction and acceptance inspection of lightning protection grounding devices. It is applicable to buildings and other projects in which grounding devices are required according to the Lightning Protection Code GBJ 135-2006. It sets out the selection principles for grounding devices, the construction principles, and the visual inspection and the resistance test that should be conducted for the acceptance inspection.
