CNC Lathe Common Faults

Computer numerical control (CNC) lathes are widely used for complex machining operations. However, due to long-term use or incorrect machine operation, CNC lathes often fail and affect production. Therefore, knowing the common failures of CNC lathes and their correct solutions is a must for every operator or engineer.

1. Axis not moving fault

This fault can be divided into two categories. First, The servo motor driver may deteriorate due to aging. Second, The CNC system fault caused by parts breakdown.

Solution: first, observe the servo motor driver lights and the relevant interface communication state to check the connectivity of the servo motor driver. If everything is normal and the red light is always on, it is likely to be the driver that is faulty. Second, repair or replace the affected parts of the system.

2. Mechanical limit fault

The mechanical limit fault of CNC lathe is mainly that the mechanical value of the CNC lathe system is poor.

Solution: First, use a tape rule or test rod to measure the distance between the mechanical limit switch and the switch mechanism, and then adjust the position of the mechanical limit switch and the motor limit according to the design requirements. Second, check the mechanical parts and replace them if necessary.

3. Overload fault

The overload fault of CNC lathes is mainly caused by the inaccuracy of engineering drawings and the wrong operation of manual control.

Solution: First, modify the engineering drawings according to the requirements of CNC lathes. Second, stabilize the spindle during the manual operation of CNC lathes and then slowly enter the machining program.

4. Data error fault

Data error fault of CNC lathe can be divided into two categories. First, The parameterization fault caused by the inaccuracy of tool data or part data input. Second, The coordinate transfer fault caused by the failure of the control system.

Solution: First, check the input and output of relevant data in the CNC programming during maintenance. Second, Adjust the relevant parameters in the CNC control system.

5. Program error fault

The program error fault of the CNC lathe is mainly caused by the wrong editing of the CNC program.

Solution: First, carefully check the CNC program file in the CNC control system. Second, adjust the parameter of spindle and axial speed or program path according to the actual situation.

6. Tool wear fault

The tool wear fault of the CNC lathe is mainly caused by the high speed and long working time of the CNC lathe.

Solution: First, check the tool regularly and replace the damaged tool in time. Second, reduce the working speed of the CNC lathe or increase the cooling time of the cutting tool.

7. Lubrication fault

The lubrication fault of the CNC lahe is mainly caused by the failure of the lubrication system or the incorrect operation.

Solution: First, check the lubrication system regularly and find out the main reason for the failure of lubrication. Second, adjust the lubrication timing and pressure of the lubrication system according to the actual situation.

To summarize, when dealing with the common failures of CNC lathes, user should always look for the root cause and take the corresponding measures in their daily maintenance and operation, otherwise, it will continue to aggravate the damage and affect the next production.
