Operation Procedures of Grinding Machine

1. Purpose

This document specifies the operation procedures of the grinding machine. The operator must read it carefully and become familiar with the functions and safety regulations of the grinding machine before they start to use it.

2. Scope

This document applies to the grinding machine operating procedures, safety regulations and environmental protection requirements during the machine’s working process.

3. Responsibility

Operators are responsible for understanding this set of procedures. The supervisor or manager should provide the operators with necessary training and guidance.

4. Pre-operation

4.1. General inspection

Before use, the grinding machine must be inspected to check whether the assembly and connection of parts are correct and whether the protective cover is complete and of good quality. You must check whether the lubrication is sufficient and whether the main components such as the spindle, grinding wheel, etc. are in good condition.

4.2. Preparation

(1) Please keep the working area clean and tidy, free of dust and chips;

(2) Check the grinding wheel and workpiece clamping device is installed correctly;

(3) Adjust the grinding wheel guard and hand wheel tool rest;

(4) Regular check whether the dressing wheel have wear and tear.

5. Operation

5.1. Hand wheel setting

When adjusting the grinding wheel guard and tool rest, please use the hand wheel to adjust; do not use other tools or force to adjust.

5.2. Start the machine

(1) Connect the main power, turn on the power switch, the power indicator should be light;

(2) Check the spindle rotation direction with the arrow direction;

(3) Adjust the speed of the spindle according to the workpiece material and process requirements, the adjustment range is marked on the speed control panel, do not exceed the range;

(4) Turn on the grinding start switch, the spindle should run in a normal and smooth manner.

5.3. Workpiece feeding

(1) Place the workpiece against the wheel front rest with one hand, and feed the workpiece under the wheel with the other hand;

(2) Pay attention to whether the wheel speed allows to feed the workpiece, but do not feed too fast;

(3) If it is a grinding surface on the workpiece, the feed direction should be parallel to the wheel cutting direction, and the feed should be even to ensure the acceptance of the ground surface.

5.4. Wheels changing and dressing

(1) When changing wheels, stop the motor first, unplug the power supply and release the pressure of the wheel ring;

(2) Using the wheel mount holes on the wheel cover, plugging out accessory wheel covers and lock the wheel mounting nuts;

(3) When the wheel is worn, the wheel dressing tool should be used for wheel dressing.

5.5. Turn off the machine and post-operation

(1) Turn off the grinding start switch, the spindle should stop running and the power indicator should turn off;

(2) Turn off the power and then clean up the workpiece residues;

(3) Use the necessary protective measures when sending out coolant water;

(4) Check the connection between the main power and the ground wire.

6. Safety instructions

6.1. Fixed safety guards

The safety cover should be in good condition, easy to move in and out and easy to remove for maintenance.

6.2. Operating personnel

(1) People should not touch the rotating wheels, which may cause injury to the hand;

(2) Do not wear gloves or ties to operate or repair the machine;

(3) If necessary, the operator shall wear this protection equipment such as ear plugs, safety goggles, dust masks, etc., during the grinding process.

6.3. Other

(1) Switch off the machine completely when it is idle, and the power must be disconnected;

(2) Do not touch the machine with wet hands;

(3) Do not use the machine to process non-metallic items;

(4) Do not use the machine to polish jewelry, gems or jade;

(5) If protection is insufficient, the machine should not be used to process flammable, explosive and hard materials;

(6) As far as possible, ground the machine ensuring the electrical safety of the machine;

(7) Regularly check the main parts of the machine for wear and tear, especially the grinding wheel and spindle.

7. Summary

Understanding the operation procedures of the grinding machine and working in compliance with safety regulations and environmental protection requirements will help make the grinding process more effective, and also help protect the safety and the environment.
