Rolling bearing terminology is often complex and the various terms used can fill an entire book. Here are four of the most basic terms related to rolling bearings that you should be familiar with.
1. Bearing Seat - The part of the machinery or equipment in which the bearing is mounted. Also known as a “housing”.
2. Bore - The internal diameter of the bearing’s inner ring.
3. Concentricity - A measure of the accuracy between the axis of the inner and outer ring(s) of the bearing.
4. Raceway - Internal grooves at the contact points of the rolling elements where contact is made between the steel of the rolling element and the internal part of the bearing.
