Singapore Exchange

The Singapore Exchange (SGX) is the first East Asian market and the largest multi-asset exchange in Southeast Asia. SGX trades securities from six operating markets: Mainboard and Catalist (formerly known as Sesdaq) for stocks and equity derivatives, Futures Quotation Board for derivatives and others, and FX Trading for currencies and bonds. It also provides trading and clearing, central depository services and settlement services for securities, derivatives and related products.

The Singapore Exchange was born on December 1, 1999 when it merged with the former Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX) and the former Stock Exchange of Singapore (SES). As one of the leading exchanges in the region, SGX provides a range of products such as equity, derivative and fixed income instruments, business-to-business products, and commodities, as well as access to cutting edge technology solutions. Moreover, SGX is the fifth largest exchange in the world by market capitalisation. As of end of 2018, its market capitalisation was S$2.7 trillion.

Thanks to its electronic trading platform, Trading Risk Management System (TMS), SGX is able to enhance the speed and accuracy of stock trades and support its orderly market. It also provides a range of risk management services to ensure the integrity of its markets, such as monitoring market compliance with the Acceptable Market Practices and client risk management rules.

The Singapore Exchange provides excellent liquidity to its customers, as evidenced by its average daily turnover of S$1.5 billion in 2017. This means that investors can achieve their investment goals more quickly and easily. SGX is also a leader in new product development and innovation. Over the years, it has developed a portfolio of products and services, such as its Standard Market Access, TMS Risk Management, Depositary Receipts, ETFs, Market Maker Facility, Online Access Platform and Index Trader.

Given its strong focus on innovation and product development, SGX has been recognized as one of the most renowned and advanced exchanges in the world. With its wide range of products and services, it provides investors and traders with a comprehensive platform to trade and invest. SGX also offers private funds, real-time pricing and electronic order routing, as well as market data and analytics.

In recent years, the Singapore Exchange has been a key driver of Asia Pacific’s capital markets. With its commitment to innovation, technology and market efficiency, SGX has delivered strong returns year after year. SGX has built an outstanding exchange with operations in multiple markets, all while increasing participation in global capital markets and supporting the goals of investors and companies.

SGX is committed to providing a platform for innovation and trading that enables investors and companies to access capital markets in a cost efficient and secure manner. With stringent control, cutting-edge technologies and full regulatory compliance, SGX ensures that its customers are protected and continue to benefit from a vibrant and safe exchange. The Singapore Exchange is indeed a great example of the positive outcomes that can occur when the public and private sectors work together to promote and enhance financial markets.
