The Production Method of Carbon Refractory Materials

Carbon refractory materials are a type of refractory materials with a carbon content of more than 15%. The carbon-containing refractories are usually made by forming sintering of raw materials with high carbon content, such as carbonaceous materials and some refractory materials. Carbon-containing refractories consist mainly of graphite and carbon-containing composite materials.

Among them, graphite refractory has the advantages of high temperature resistance, heat shock resistance and corrosion resistance, but its wear resistance is relatively poor. In terms of forming, graphite refractories can be made into common refractories such as aggregates and binders. As a high-carbon material, graphite refractory has strong chemical stability and can maintain its physical and mechanical properties stably for a long time in acid and alkaline environment.

Carbon-containing composite refractories are mainly composed of carbon and other refractory components. The mechanical strength, creep resistance, wear resistance, thermal shock resistance and corrosion resistance of carbon-containing composite refractories are better than those of graphite refractories. In terms of forming, carbon-containing composite refractories are mainly castables, ramming materials, extrudates and so on.

The manufacturing process of carbon-containing refractory materials is mainly divided into three parts: material preparation, material forming, and sintering. Material preparation is about the stage of material mixing and sag conditioning. The percentage of addition of each material needs to be controlled, and the operation process such as crushing, screening, mixing and conditioning should be strictly controlled according to the material characteristics.

Material forming is the process of preparing and manufacturing various refractory shapes such as grogs, aggregates, binders, ramming materials and castables, etc. In this process, the parameters and operating process of each forming process need to be strictly checked and controlled.

The sintering process is the stage of the crystallization of the refractory material, where the mechanical properties of the refractory material can be improved. After the forming process, in general, the refractory parts need to be heated to the sintering temperature, and then slowly cooled to room temperature after holding for a period of time, while some high-carbon refractories need to be burned to improve the hardness and density of the refractories after the calcining process.

In fact, the production of carbon-containing refractory materials is a very difficult and complicated process, and it requires a lot of precision. Therefore, many manufacturers need to equip with advanced equipment and technology, as well as have corresponding experience and knowledge. In summary, the process of producing carbon-containing refractory materials is a process of scientifically controlling the composition, particle size, moisture content and other parameters, and rationally controlling the temperature and time of sintering.
