In terms of culture, there is the concept of culture levels, which states that different levels in a given society can have noticeably different meanings in terms of cultural value. Cultural levels can refer to aspects such as education, income, occupation, or even power. The concept of cultural levels can also be used to describe how a given culture, or an individual, values certain forms of behavior or beliefs.

Cultural Levels provide a useful framework for understanding the way in which different segments of society relate to each other. In this sense, it can be used to identify potential power differentials, as well as examine the ways in which individuals with different levels of cultural capital interact and communicate. Furthermore, the concept of Cultural Levels can help to identify aspects of a culture which may be important for understanding disparities in individuals’ economic or political opportunities.

In terms of education and income, individuals from different cultural levels may have different levels of access and opportunity. For example, those from higher socio-economic backgrounds may be more likely to attend university and have access to better quality jobs, whereas those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds may not have such access. Not only this, but individuals from different cultural levels may have different levels of access to resources such as finance, information, or education.

In addition, individuals from different cultural levels may express themselves differently, often feeling more comfortable expressing themselves within their own cultural milieu. This can be seen in terms of language and speech patterns, but also in terms of style of dress, types of clothing worn, or preference in music or art. It is important to recognise that individuals can self-identify with different cultural levels, not necessarily because of their social or economic background, but also because of their own preferences in terms of culture.

It is important to be aware of the concept of cultural levels as it can be used to help identify disparities in access of resources and power. Furthermore, it can be used to identify patterns of interaction and communication amongst individuals from different social backgrounds, and this understanding can be used to promote the dismantling of power differentials and help bring about equity.

The concept of cultural levels should not be used to judge or devalue any one type of culture. It should instead be used to gain an understanding of the different cultural milieus, and the dynamics between them. It is important to recognise that individuals from different cultural levels are not seen as ‘less’ than any other, but rather as part of a diverse and complex cultural system which should be respected and celebrated.
