China Investment Association
The China Investment Association (CIA) is an independent, non-governmental, professional body established with the participation of domestic and foreign business entities. It is registered with the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs and with the authorities in the provinces, autonomous regions and cities where it has branches. It is dedicated to promoting and protecting the interests of private investment, pushing forward the development of investment, creating a good investment environment, encouraging and promoting a sound system of investment and its sustainable development.
The CIA consists of a General Assembly that is convened once every five years and a Standing Committee that meets every other year. It is currently presided by Mr. Wu Jianping, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). The association counts a full-time staff of more than 20 and hosts a secretariat that serves a wide geographic area, comprising more than 70 member associations from all provinces, autonomous regions and cities in mainland China.
The Core Purposes of the CIA are as follows:
-Encourage and promote private investment in the Chinese economy
-Protect the legitimate interests and rights of private investors
-Help create a sound legal environment and investment policies
-Strengthen internal and external economic co-operation
-Promote increased awareness of private investment
-Promote the development of private-sector industrial alliances
-Propose and develop methods to improve investment efficiency
In order to achieve the above objectives, the CIA has developed a number of activities that include: investment research, confidential project evaluations, economic assessments, legal and regulatory advice, business dispute resolution and arbitration, legal document drafting, and action campaigns against government policies that do not follow the spirit of laws governing investment.
In order to promote investment, the CIA engages in a wide range of activities. These activities have included drafting and publishing reports, organizing and promoting seminars, developing investment guides and lobbying the government on issues of importance to private investment. Since its creation, the Association has been at the forefront of efforts to make the system of private investment a viable one in China.
The China Investment Association is an important advocate for the public interest and a key facilitator of foreign investment. By creating a platform for investment knowledge exchange, the CIA has been instrumental in helping to create a favorable investment environment and one that encourages economic growth in China.
