GB 1499-1998 Hot Rolled Ribbed Steel Bars Length and Tolerance

Steel is an important construction material and one of the most commonly used building products. Hot rolled ribbed steel bars are one of the most commonly used steel products for reinforcing concrete structures. GB 1499-1998 Hot Rolled Ribbed Steel Bars Length and Tolerance is a standard promulgated by the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China for establishing the length and allowable deviation for ribbed steel bars of round and square cross sections.

The length indicated on the contract and the delivery length shall be the maximum distance from the end surface to the other end surface of the ribbed steel bars along their directions. However, if there is no special indication in the contract, the length shall be indicated by the supplier and it shall not be shorter than the length indicated in item 8.5 of Table 1 of GB 1499-1998 Hot Rolled Ribbed Steel Bars Length and Tolerance.

The allowable deviation of the length of ribbed steel bars of standard length shall not exceed ± 3 mm. The allowable deviation of the length of ribbed steel bars of length shorter than 6 meters shall not exceed ± 3 mm. For those whose length requires greater accuracy, ± 1.5 mm shall be allowed instead. The allowable deviation of the length of ribbed steel bars of length greater than or equal to 6 meters shall not exceed ± 0.5%.

The length of the steel bars in a bundle shall not be continuously longer than an allowable deviation of ± 2 m. The total length of steel bars in a bundle shall not be more than 5 times of the maximum allowable deviation. For those ribbed steel bars specified in items 3.2 and 3.3 of Table 1 in GB 1499-1998 Hot Rolled Ribbed Steel Bars Length and Tolerance, the length of the steel bars in a bundle shall not be continuously longer than an allowable deviation of ± 1 m.

To guarantee the accuracy of the length of steel bars, the seller shall properly arrange the production and make sure the deviation does not exceed the limits. If the deviation exceeded the limits, the seller should scrap them and make a new production according to the requirements. The quality inspection department should measure the length of each steel bar with a tape measure to guarantee the contract requirement is fulfilled.

In conclusion, GB 1499-1998 Hot Rolled Ribbed Steel Bars Length and Tolerance establishes the length and allowable deviation for ribbed steel bars of round and square cross sections. The length indicated on the contract and the delivery length shall be the maximum distance from the end surface to the other end surface of the ribbed steel bars along their directions. The allowable deviation of the length of ribbed steel bars of standard length shall not exceed ± 3 mm. The length of the steel bars in a bundle shall not be continuously longer than an allowable deviation of ± 2 m. To guarantee the accuracy of the length of steel bars, the seller shall properly arrange the production and make sure the deviation does not exceed the limits. The quality inspection department should measure the length of each steel bar with a tape measure to guarantee the contract requirement is fulfilled.
