Lubrication of Sliding Bearing

Sliding bearings are widely used in all aspects of industrial equipment. Proper lubrication of sliding bearings can reduce friction between surfaces and make bearings more durable. Therefore, the correct lubrication of sliding bearings is the key to reduce wear and improve equipment life.

Users should properly select lubricants for use in sliding bearings based on their properties. Commonly used lubricants are grease and oil. Grease and oil have different properties. Therefore, it is important to select the right lubricant appropriately.

Nevertheless, lubrication is not as simple as oiling the bearings. As different types of bearings require different types of lubrication and often require careful attention. Here, different lubrication methods and common lubricants will be briefly introduced.

1. Grease lubrication

Grease lubrication is considered to be the simplest method of lubrication and is widely used in all types of sliding bearings. The method of grease lubrication is to inject grease into the sliding bearing pot and cover the bearing surface with appropriate amount of grease. Uniform lubrication can be achieved by rotating the bearing. The advantage of grease lubrication is to reduce the frequency of lubrication, but improper grease selection and excessive amount of grease will cause frequent fault. Grease is also easily affected by dust and other contaminants, which will cause bearing failure.

2. Oil lubrication

Oil lubrication is more practical and effective than grease lubrication. This method covers the bearing surface with a thin layer of oil and reduces surface friction, thus prolonging the service life of the bearing. Different types of machinery require different types of oil lubrication, such as mineral oil, turbine oil, lubricating oil, rust and corrosion resistant oil, etc.

3. Lubrication with injection hole

Injection hole lubrication is a method of injecting lubricants such as grease and oil into the bearing through a small hole. The amount of lubricant injected should be appropriate. Too much will lead to an increase in internal pressure, resulting in an increase in bearing temperature, causing bearing failure. For injection hole lubrication, the hole should be sealed with a plug or plug when the machine is not used.

4. Lubrication with oil cup

Lubrication with oil cup is also a kind of oil lubrication. The oil cup is filled with oil and mounted on the outside of the bearing pot. Under the action of gravity and its own hot-air effect, lubricating oil can slowly enter the bearing in the bearing pot to lubricate the bearing. Since the oil cup does not have sealing cover, the oil in it is always exposed to the air and easy to contaminate. If the bearing is operated in high temperature environment, it may cause risk. Under normal circumstances, lubricating oil should be replaced in time.

Conclusion

The correct lubrication of sliding bearings is very important. Different types of lubricants should be properly selected according to different bearings. In addition, different lubrication methods should be adopted according to different conditions. Producers and users should pay attention to lubrication maintenance, promote wear resistance, reduce wear and prolong bearing service life.
