Magnesium alloys are suitable for die casting, forging and pressing processing, and provide good conditions for energy saving and material utilization. Magnesium alloy has some excellent physical and mechanical properties such as strength, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, etc., which are widely used in automotive, aerospace, electronics, sports and other industries for its significant advantages. According to the different elemental components, magnesium alloy can also be divided into heavy magnesium alloy and light magnesium alloy.

Magnesium alloy forging production can be divided into three processes: pre-processing, forging and post-treatment.

The preprocessing is to ensure the quality of Magnesium alloy forgings, including raw material selection, melting, smelting process, pretreatment and so on. The raw materials should be strictly inspected and the chemical composition should comply with the relevant standards. The melting process generally adopts high frequency melting and low-temperature melting processes, and vacuum melting is also possible. The smelting process can not only improve the mechanical properties of the material to some extent, but also ensure that slag and impurities are effectively removed.

The forging process is the core process of yield forging of magnesium alloy. It ensures the accuracy, stability and integrity of product structure, so as to obtain a reasonable production process. Generally, forging process are divided into hot forging, warm forging and cold forging. In this process, the process parameters such as temperature, speed and force must be strictly controlled to avoid excessive temperature and local overheating, so as to achieve the desired form of magnesium alloy forgings.

Post-treatment is the second important process to ensure the product quality of magnesium alloy forgings. Commonly used treatment processes include heat treatment, cleaning and surface treatment. Heat treatment can improve the mechanical properties of magnesium alloy forgings because it can eliminate forces generated during the forging process and improve the internal structure, alloy components and grain sizes of forgings. Cleaning can eliminate residual impurities and stains, ensure the cleanliness requirements of forgings and improve the accuracy of magnesium alloy forgings. Surface treatment is the final process to improve the surface properties of forgings.

In summary, the processing technology of magnesium alloy forging is complex and requires extensive technical accumulation and preparation. Therefore, it is necessary to have professional personnel and corresponding equipment in the forging process.
