The results show that the 25 steel microstructure is mainly composed of pearlite and a small amount of ferrite, while the 20Be microstructure is mainly composed of ferrite, martensite and a small amount of carbide. Both of them are lamellar or granular structure, with a obvious presence of mapping phenomenon.

The friction welded joint of 25 steel and 20 steel can be divided into three zones: solid-phase welding zone, diffusion welding zone and thermal effect zone. The solid-phase welding zone is composed of carbide, pearlite, ferrite and a small amount of martensite and austenite.
