Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corp(Ansteel) Company is one of the largest iron and steel companies in China. It is a Fortune Global 500 company, a key state-owned enterprise in Anshan and the largest steelmaker in Liaoning Province in Northeastern China and one of the main steelmakers in China. With over 70 years of operations, Ansteel has developed three major engineering projects, which included the construction of a new ironmaking plant, the construction of a modern steelmaking plant and an expansion of the existing transformer and galvanizing workshops.
First, the new ironmaking plant was constructed in 1954 and it was the most advanced ironmaking facility in China at that time. Through continuous technological upgrades and expansions, the ironmaking plant has produced high-grade iron and steel products. The ironmaking plant has a maximum production capacity of 5.5 million tons of crude iron per year, enabling Ansteel to become one of the largest iron and steel producers in the world.
Second, the construction of the modern steelmaking plant began in 1957 after the successful completion of the ironmaking plant. The steelmaking plant was the most advanced facility for producing steel products at that time. The steelmaking plant adopted the most advanced technologies such as electric arc, converter and oxygen blowing. In 2008, the steelmaking plant was nearly ten times larger than the ironmaking plant. The steelmaking plant was equipped with the most advanced equipment and tools and had a production capacity of 20 million tons of steel products per year. This enabled Ansteel to further expand its production capacity and become one of the largest steel producers in the world.
Third, the existing transformer and galvanizing workshops were expanded in 1990. The expansion included the construction of two new workshops. One workshop aimed to produce a wide range of transformers with a capacity of 20 million kVA (power unit) per year while the second workshop was aimed to galvanize the steel products coming from the steelmaking plant. The construction of these two workshops has enabled Ansteel to produce transformers and galvanized steel with a production capacity of 20 million kVA and 10 million tons of galvanized steel per year, respectively.
Through these three major projects, Ansteel has been able to expand its production capacity and become one of the biggest steelmakers in China. This achievement has further enabled the company to develop into a major international company as it has expanded its operations to more than 15 countries. Ansteel has maintained its dominant position in the steel industry with the development of its three engineering projects, making it the largest iron and steelmaker in China.
