Refractory Materials Used in Steel-refining Furnace

Refractory materials refer to materials that can withstand high temperatures, and have high temperature stability and chemical resistance. Refractories are widely used in industrial fields such as iron and steel, nonferrous metals, glass, petrochemical industry, cement and other fields. Refractory materials used in steel-refining furnace are used to contain molten steel and protect furnace linings. Therefore, they need to have high temperature resistance, thermal shock resistance and erosion resistance.

The refractory used in steel refining furnace is a kind of alumina-magnesia refractory, including fire clay and high alumina refractory. The main components of fire clay are kaolin group and quartz group, and its temperature resistance is generally below 1550℃. High aluminum refractory contains more alumina, ranging from 70% to 90%. The main minerals are mullite, corundum and glass phase. The temperature resistance is generally more than 1580℃.

The properties of refractory materials used in steel refining furnace are as follows:

1. High temperature resistance: High temperature resistance is the most important requirement for refractory materials used in steel refining furnace. Generally, its working temperature should be above 1550℃.

2. Thermal shock resistance: In order to make the furnace lining last longer, thermal shock resistance is also an important factor. Therefore, the refractory material should have enough thermal shock resistance.

3. Erosion resistance: The refractory material needs to have good erosion resistance to molten steel, slag and gas. The erosion resistance of refractory materials can be increased by adding magnesia, chromium oxide and other materials.

4. Good Chemical Stability: Refractory materials used in steel refining furnace should have good chemical stability, so that they can withstand the corrosion of molten steel and slag.

5. Good insulation: Good insulation performance can reduce heat loss, improve furnace efficiency and prolong the service life of furnace lining.

The above is the introduction of refractory materials used in steel refining furnace. The refractory should have the above properties, in order to withstand the high temperature, corrosion and thermal shock during the steel-refining process.

Popular refractory materials used in steel-refining furnace include fire clay, high alumina, magnesia, corundum and silicon carbide materials. Therefore, when selecting refractory materials for steel refining furnace, users need to consider the above physical and chemical properties and material composition. The selection of refractory materials should be based on actual furnace working conditions and requirements.
