The Principle of Preheating of Rolling Mill
The preheating of the rolling mill is a process that must be carried out before the rolling process. This process involves preheating the rolling mill, including the roll rings, to remove all traces of moisture, oil, and other harmful chemicals from the surface to ensure the accuracy, reliability and safe operation of the rolling mill.
Preheating a rolling mill is one of the most important steps in getting ready to start the rolling process. Preheating reduces thermal stresses and eliminates the potential for cold brittleness. Preheating also increases the rolling mills elasticity and strengthens the bond of the structural steel components, thus allowing the rolling mill to perform optimally at every stage of the rolling process.
The preheating process of the rolling mill is divided into two stages, preheating before rolling and preheating after rolling. During the preheating before rolling, the rolling mills rollers, roll rings and other components are heated up to a temperature sufficient to enable uniform strain hardening of the surface of the roll during the rolling process. During the preheating after rolling, the rollers and roll rings are heated again to a temperature (usually slightly higher than that before rolling) so as to correct distortion of the rollers and roll rings caused by uneven strain hardening of the surface of the roll during the rolling process.
To ensure that the preheating process is carried out effectively and efficiently, it is essential to control the temperature of the preheating process to a specified range. Preheating of the rolls and roll rings should be done slowly, as any sudden increase in temperature can cause significant damage to the components of the machine. Additionally, temperature should not exceed the specified range as this can not only damage parts of the machinery but can also reduce the rigidity of the rollers and roll rings, negatively affecting the end product.
During the preheating process, the rolling mill should be observed at all times to ensure proper operation and to prevent any occurrences of the rollers and roll rings unlikely to wear abnormally. Additionally, understanding the effects of the various materials and lubricants used in the rolling mill process can significantly improve the working environment and accuracy of the preheating process.
Preheating of the rolling mill is one of the most important factors in getting a perfect working rolling mill. Preheating the rolling mill components such as the rollers and roll rings not only improves the efficiency and accuracy of the rolling process, but is also necessary for ensuring the highest quality product. With the proper care and understanding of the preheating process, a high quality product can be produced with minimal downtime.
