Continuous casting electromagnetic stirrers
Continuous casting electromagnetic stirrers (CCES) are what we call a form of ‘non-invasive’ stirring. This means that they don’t physically touch anything inside the melts and instead use electromagnetic fields to achieve controllable stirring speeds.
CCESs are extremely important to the continuous casting process. They help to maintain the homogeneity and fluidity of the melt and improve the overall quality of the cast product by preventing any segregation or deposition of solid particles around the melt.
The CCES consists of two parts which work together: the generator and the stirrer head. The generator is responsible for generating the necessary high frequency electromagnetic fields, while the stirrer head is responsible for transmitting the electrical energy.
The generator works in two different manners. Firstly, it works as a generator of high frequency electromagnetic fields. This part of the device is responsible for the generation of the fields needed for stirring. Secondly, the generator has the ability to control the energy output and the frequency of the fields. This enables the operator to adjust the level of stirring necessary for a certain job.
The stirrer head, also known as the transducer, is responsible for converting the generated fields into kinetic energy. This energy is then transmitted to a few metallic parts that are placed into the melt, creating a stirring effect.
The beneficial effects of a CCES can be seen when used in conjunction with the other equipment used in continuous casting.
For example, CCESs can be used with a plasma cutting machine to help create a smoother, even surface. The machine reduces thermal shock to the metal, which increases its luster, while the CCES helps maintain uniformity and lowers tundish temperature.
The CCESs also play a major role in the continuous casting process. This is especially true in graphic and laser wire cutting processes, where the CCES efficiently stirs up metal particles that have been included in the melts. This increases the quality of the cast metal product, resulting in fewer defects and stronger parts.
The operation of a continuous casting electromagnetic stirrer is quite simple. The stirrer comes with a starter kit or a manual which explains how to connect the different components and operate them effectively. Most of the operations are based on the reading of an instrument panel and the pressing of certain buttons or switches. The entire process should not take more than a few minutes.
To ensure that the stirrer works properly, it should be inspected for faults and maintenance has to be done regularly. It should also be connected to a secure power source and the grounding must be taken care of.
Continuous casting is an essential part of the manufacturing process, and with the help of a CCES, it can be made more efficient and reliable. With proper care and maintenance, the CCES can be used for many years and help to significantly increase the quality of metal parts.
