The Working Process of Nickel Smelting Cobalt Slag Recycling Workshop

Nickel smelting cobalt slag recycling workshop is a process for recovering precious metals and other useful materials from cobalt slag produced by electrolysis smelting of nickel salt. This paper focuses on its working process.

The working process of nickel smelting cobalt slag recycling workshop can be divided into pre-treatment and high temperature pyrolysis process.

The pre-treatment includes four parts:

1. The first step is loading cobalt slag. The cobalt slag must be inspected carefully before being sent to the workshop. Any damages or impurities should be carefully removed.

2. The second step is unloading the cobalt slag, including separation of impurities and sorting of special metals in the slag.

3. The third step is pre-treating the cobalt slag. If needed, additional chemical procedures can be used to isolate certain metals in the slag.

4. The fourth step is drying the cobalt slag. The drying procedure removes moisture from the slag and prepares it for pyrolysis.

Then high temperature pyrolysis process is executed. The working temperature of high-temperature pyrolysis furnace is around 1200℃~1400℃. During the pyrolysis process, cobalt slag gradually melts, and materials originally contained in the slag are vaporized, condensed and crystallized in the furnace. After the pyrolysis procedure is completed, the cooling procedure follows. The cooling procedure can adopt natural cooling, forced cooling, air cooling or water cooling.

After cooling, the recovered materials are yielded, including cobalt, nickel, copper, magnesium, copper-nickel alloy, etc., which are sent to enterprises for further processing. The remaining slag is treated again, producing high temperature slag ball, asphalt-based slag and other products.

The nickel smelting cobalt slag recycling workshop is a comprehensive process involving several steps, including loading and unloading, pre-treatment, high temperature pyrolysis, cooling and finished product recovery. This process can reduce pollution to environment and help saving natural resources.
