JIS G 5202-1991 High-temperature High-pressure Centrifugally Cast Steel Pipe
This Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) standard specifies the requirements for high-temperature high-pressure centrifugally cast steel pipe which is made from ferrous alloys. This standard requires the pipe to contain certain material properties and to be subjected to certain tests.
Material properties include composition and mechanical properties. The material composition includes carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium and nickel. The mechanical properties pertain to tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and hardness as well as other tests such as hydrostatic test and destructive tests.
The standard also stipulates the requirements concerning the safety factors to be taken into consideration in order to ensure safe design and operation. The safety factors include the factors of safety against failure due to internal pressure, temperature and total load, as well as other conditions such as salinity and vibration.
The pipe shall be manufactured to meet the standard and shall conform to the specified dimensions. The manufacturer shall also mark the pipe with all relevant information that is necessary for the pipe to be accepted and used in the intended application.
The pipe shall be inspected for quality prior to delivery. The inspection shall include an examination, measurement and comparison of the pipe with the specified standard requirements and tolerances. The inspection shall also include a visual test, ultrasonic inspection and penetration tests.
The standard applies to the choice of material and manufacture of the pipe as well as to acceptance tests and inspection. The standard does not cover the welding, threading or other joining methods.
This JIS G 5202-1991 standard will be beneficial to manufacturers, design engineers and end-users as it sets requirements for a uniform quality of high pressure steel pipe. The standard will also help to ensure safety against failure due to internal pressure, temperature, total load and other conditions.
