30Mn2MoW Alloy Structural Steel
30Mn2MoW alloy structural steel is a low carbon, low alloy quenched and tempered steel which has high strength, good hardenability, high ductility and good weldability. It is especially suitable for welding purposes and can be used in a variety of applications, including heat-treated parts, such as shipbuilding, automotive, agricultural equipment and construction machinery.
30Mn2MoW alloy structural steel is produced with chemical compositions of 0.25-0.35% carbon, 0.45-0.60% manganese, 0.40-0.50% molybdenum, 0.10-0.20% tungsten, and trace amounts of silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, and other admixtures. This combination of chemical components results in a steel which has tensile strength in the range of 780-1200 MPa (115-175 ksi).
The increased strength of 30Mn2MoW alloy structural steel over conventional steels is due to its higher alloying contents. This is achieved by adding molybdenum and tungsten, which form strong carbide precipitates. These elements effectively tie up the dislocations in the steel, thus increasing its strength. The increased strength also allows for higher thermal cycling temperature which results in increased fatigue strength and fatigue resistance. The increased strength also improves the resistance to surface wear and improved resistance to cracking and impact.
The increased strength of the 30Mn2MoW alloy structural steel is also significant when used in applications where the steel is subjected to high temperatures. As the temperature increases, the strength increases further. This makes the 30Mn2MoW alloy steel ideal for applications such as oil production, power plants and steam turbines.
The improved weldability of the 30Mn2MoW alloy steel is due to its low carbon and low alloying content, which results in a more ductile steel. This enables it to be easily welded using standard steels welding processes and parameters. The increased ductility also contributes towards lowering the risk of weld cracks and improves the overall strength of the weld.
The atmospheric corrosion resistance of the 30Mn2MoW alloy structural steel is also improved due to the addition of molybdenum, tungsten and other elements. This increased resistance improves the overall durability of the steel and resistance to wear, increasing its lifetime considerably.
Overall, 30Mn2MoW alloy structural steel is a great all-rounder which offers excellent strength and weldability, along with improved corrosion and wear resistance. This makes it ideal for a number of high-stress applications, such as shipbuilding, automotive and agricultural equipment. It is also used in applications such as heat treatment parts and steam turbine components, due to its excellent high temperature strength.
