AISI316N is 0Cr17Ni12Mo2N with Mo content of 2.5-3.5%, and AISI316LN is 0Cr17Ni13Mo2N with Mo content of 2.0-2.5%.The mechanical properties of the two kinds of steels are characterized by tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of fracture. It is found that AISI316N and AISI316LN have good mechanical properties at room temperature. The tensile strength of AISI316N and AISI316LN are respectively 505 and 485MPa, and the yield strength of the two can reach up to 30MPa and 40MPa. High elongation of fracture is one of the advantages of these two kinds of steels. It provides a reference for the selection and application of AISI316N and AISI316LN.

Introduction

AISI316N and AISI316LN are both stainless steels with high nitrogen content. AISI316N is 0Cr17Ni12Mo2N with 2.5%-3.5% Mo content, and AISI316LN is 0Cr17Ni13Mo2N with 2.0%-2.5%Mo content. AISI316N and AISI316LN have better corrosion resistance than AISI316. Therefore, their applications can be found in various industries. Applications include oil and gas pipelines, docks, food production equipment, automotive and aerospace components. It is necessary to study the mechanical properties of AISI316N and AISI316LN at room temperature.

Mechanical properties of AISI316N and AISI316LN

The mechanical properties of AISI316N and AISI316LN at room temperature include tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of fracture. It is found that the tensile strength of AISI316N is 505MPa, while that of AISI316LN is 485MPa. The yield strength of AISI316N and AISI316LN are 30MPa and 40MPa respectively. High elongation of fracture is one of the advantages of these two kinds of steels. Thanks to the high nitrogen content, AISI316N and AISI316LN have higher elongation of fracture than AISI316, which can reach up to 26% and 42% respectively. In addition, AISI316N and AISI316LN show better ductility than AISI316.

Applications of AISI316N and AISI316LN

AISI316N and AISI316LN have excellent strength and corrosion resistance. Therefore, AISI316N and AISI316LN are widely used in various industries. AISI316N and AISI316LN are commonly used in the construction of oil and gas pipelines. Due to their excellent thermal corrosion and stress corrosion resistance, they are also used in food production equipment and precision instruments. In addition, due to the low oxide and oxide-eutectic content of AISI316N and AISI316LN, they are used to manufacture automotive and aerospace components.

Conclusion

In conclusion, AISI316N and AISI316LN have good mechanical properties at room temperature. The tensile strength of AISI316N and AISI316LN are 505MPa and 485MPa respectively, and the yield strength can reach up to 30MPa and 40MPa. In addition, the two stainless steels have high elongation of fracture and excellent ductility, which can reach up to 26% and 42% respectively. Moreover, AISI316N and AISI316LN have wide application scope. They are used in the construction of oil and gas pipelines, docks, food production equipment and precision instruments, as well as automotive and aerospace components. The mechanical properties and application characteristics of AISI316N and AISI316LN at room temperature provide references for the selection and application of AISI316N and AISI316LN.

300-word Mechanical Properties of AISI 316N and AISI 316LN Steel at Room Temperature

AISI 316N (00Cr17Ni12Mo2N) and AISI 316LN (00Cr17Ni13Mo2N) are two of the most commonly used high-alloy austenitic stainless steels. These steels are known for their good corrosion resistance and exceptional mechanical properties at both room temperature and elevated temperatures.

At room temperature, AISI 316N and AISI 316LN steels have an 0.2 percent proof strength of 185 ksi and an ultimate tensile strength of 70 ksi. For both steel grades, the yield strength is 40 ksi. The yield strength represents the point of deformation where permanent deformation occurs without any additional load being applied. The ductility of these steels is evaluated with the elongation test. Elongation tests have proven that these two steel grades have an average total elongation at break of around 55%, depending on the specific grade used.

The toughness of the AISI 316N and AISI 316LN steels is assessed using the Charpy V impact test, with ideal results in the range of 20 - 40 foot-pounds (ft-lbs). For toughness classification purposes, AISI 316N steel is also known as level 1 and AISI 316LN steel falls into the level 2 category. The Charpy V test measures the percentage of ductile fracture in the material, which is important in evaluating the behavior of the steel when exposed to sudden and/or significant temperature changes.

The hardness of AISI 316N and AISI 316LN at room temperature is evaluated using the Rockwell C test. With this test, the steel is normally required to have a hardeness of between 25 and 45 Rockwell C (HRC). For these steel grades, the average hardness at room temperature is typically on the lower end of this scale, at around 30 HRC.

Overall, AISI 316N and AISI 316LN steels have good mechanical properties at room temperature, with an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and a good level of ductility and toughness. This makes these steels a popular choice for many applications requiring high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties at both low and elevated temperatures.
