GB/T10624-1995, Technical Index for High Purity Argon

High purity argon is a gas used in arc welding and other industrial processes. It is a colorless, odorless and inert gas that produces a protective and non-combustible atmosphere during welding, cutting, and other metal-fabrication processes. GB/T10624-1995 sets out the technical index for high purity argon, including the characteristics stipulated by the fundamental reference materials and consist of absorptivities and signal-to-noise ratio. The following are some of the requirements as specified by the standard:

· Purity: 99.999%

· Moisture content: ≤ 3.0 Ppm

· CO2 content: ≤ 5.0 PPM

· H2S Content: ≤ 0.1 PPM

· Oxygen (O2) Content: ≤ 10 PPM

· Nitric Oxide (NO) Content: ≤ 5.0 PPM

· Carbon Monoxide (CO) Content: ≤ 5.0 PPM

· Total Acid (SO2) Content: ≤ 1.0 PPM

· Hydrocarbon Content: ≤ 0.5 PPM

· Dew Point: ≥ -68℃

· Boiling Point: -185.9℃

· Relative Density (Air = 1): 1.3883

· Specific Volume @15℃ : 1.6712

· Specific Weight @15℃: 1.209810

· Critical Temperature: -121.00℃

· Critical Pressure: 5.213 MPa

· Critical density: 0.171 g/cm3

· Latent heat of evaporation: 106.6 KJ/Kg

· Critical heat Capacity: 0.1580 KJ/Kg-K

· Enthalpy of vaporization: 25.7 KJ/Kg at -185.9℃

· Enthalpy of fusion: 19.1 KJ/Kg at -185.9℃

The purity of argon gas is extremely important in order to ensure safety, performance, and beauty of finished products. GB/T10624-1995 provides a guide for checking the purity of argon gas by setting out a range of criteria that must be met. As a result of the stringent requirements, the quality of the argon gas is guaranteed and with it, the quality of the finished product. The stringent requirements also ensure that the gas produced is safe, stable and of a consistent quality, whether it is being used in a manufacturing process or welding application.

As an important part of arc welding and other industrial processes, the quality of the argon gas is paramount. GB/T10624-1995 sets out the requirements production and purity of the argon gas to ensure a consistent quality of the gas and to ensure safety, performance and beauty of the finished product. The requirements are stringent and guarantee a high standard of purity and quality of the argon gas.
