3Cr13Mo is a general-purpose grade of martensitic stainless steel. Its main alloying elements are 13% chromium, 3% carbon, and the addition of molybdenum. It also contains some nickel, nitrogen, and manganese to improve its corrosion resistance and machinability. Its properties depend on its composition and heat treatment.

3Cr13Mo is renowned for its relatively high surface hardness and wear resistance. Martensitic stainless steels, in general, contain a large amount of carbon for hardenability, reaching levels up to 1.2%, and it is one of the grades that reach the highest level of hardness after heat treatment. 3Cr13Mo is known for its good cold-workability and hot-forming ability, due to its high-carbon content. It is often used for components that are subjected to wear, such as blades, spindles, molds, and dies. It is also well-suited for producing machine parts that require considerable strength, such as gears, shafts, and screws.
