Hubei Tieshan Iron Mine
Located in Linxiang City, Hunan Province, the Hubei Tieshan Iron Mine is one of the three classic iron ore deposits in China and one of the oldest iron ore deposits in China. Iron mining has been going on here since the Song Dynasty, producing over 4 million tons of iron ore annually. Tieshan iron ore is characterized by large reserves, high iron content, and low amount of phosphorus, making it a valuable source for iron-making units in China.
Hubei Tieshan Iron Mine consists of three main parts: West, Middle and East. The reserve at West is the most considerable in Hubei irons. The ore is mainly medium-grade hematite and low-grade hematite, with a total iron content of approximately 44 per cent. The total iron ore reserves at Hubei Tieshan are estimated at 2.3 billion tons, including 1.3 billion tons at West, 0.75 billion tons at Middle, and 0.2 billion tons at East.
The mineralogy of the Tieshan iron ore is also of great significance. It has been proven that, at Hubei Tieshan Iron Mine, medium-grade hematite is the most rich economic type with a total iron content of 40-60 per cent and a total phosphorus content of less than 1.5 per cent. Moreover, there are also medium-grade siderite, magnetite, quartz and some other minerals in the ore.
To date, cooperative development for the mine has been actively pursued. Companies such as China Minmetals, Ma’anshan Steel Co and Anshan Iron and Steel Co. have been working together to develop the Hubei Tieshan Iron Mine. The mine has become a state-level key protected industry, with a total of 181,512 hectares of land that is home to the ten key protected species found in the area.
The Mining Bureau of Hubei Tieshan has conducted a comprehensive survey on the resource situation, geology condition and socio-economic development in the region. The Bureau has noted that the ore deposit is easy to develop and the extraction is not difficult. Additionally, the mine has the capacity to produce high-grade ore for iron-making purposes.
In terms of mine development and operational efficiency, Hubei Tieshan Iron Mine is renowned for its excellent mining engineering, quality ore mining and efficient mining processes. Regular maintenance and safety measures are regularly practiced, ensuring the safety and health of the workers. The production capacity is currently keeping up with the market demand and has been allowing the region to become increasingly self-sufficient in terms of iron ore production.
As one of the classic iron ore mines in China, Hubei Tieshan Iron Mine has proven to be an invaluable source of iron ore for both the Chinese economy and production industry. With its vast reserves, high-grade ore and operational efficiency, the mine has been able to remain a key player in the iron ore industry, meeting the needs of the Chinese market and economy.
