Harm of Fake Bearings

Bearing is an important part for most machineries and industrial equipments, fake bearing is a great threat for the smoothness of the equipment and even more. The harm caused by fake bearing can be both direct and subtle and the safety of production may be greatly threatened.

To start with, fake bearing can greatly reduce the efficiency of the equipment due to its low service life. We may assume that if a real bearing can work for 1-2 years, then a fake bearing will only work for 6 months or even shorter. As an example, fake bearing may lead to reduced speed and increased vibration of a motor or a compressor which consequently restricts the production efficiency. Moreover, besides the service life, fake bearing can easily get rusty or dried up and start to work abnormally after beyond its service life. These factors not only add extra burden to the repair cost but also waste a lot of time in terms of frequent machine maintenance.

Further, we have to consider the safety risks brought by fake bearing. Since fake bearing is usually made of poor quality alloy, it is more vulnerable to large extrusion or sudden external force. The worst consequence of using these bearings is that the equipment might be totally damaged once the spider breaks or a poorly assembled bearing gets impulsive load. According to the research from Prof. Wang and his team at University of Nanjing, accidents occurred by fake bearing accounted for 7 percent of all the industrial accidents in Shenyang in 2017. Besides, the danger could be more serious when the fake bearing is used in special environment such as the aerospace industry.

In the meanwhile, fake bearing may also harm the environment both directly and indirectly. Though fake bearing does not release toxic gas or aerosol, it is still classified as a threat to the environment due to its short service life. As we have discussed above, fake bearing may need to be changed every 1-2 months or even every week, thus a lot of useless waste will be produced. As a result, not only the overall cost of production will increase, but also the load of landfill and other kinds of waste treatment will cause tremendous pressure on the environment. By contrast, real bearing definitely has better capability to support long-term use and it also saves a great deal of expenses in terms of less energy consumptions.

In conclusion, fake bearing may cause direct harm to the safety of equipments, reduce the efficiency and even damage the environment. Therefore, when it comes to the purchase of bearing, we have to be incredibly cautious and only choose those products certified by professional industrial organizations. More attention should be paid to the quality of bearing and necessary actions must be taken accordingly to prevent the potential risks.
