JIS G2319-1986

JIS G2319-1986 is a Japanese standard for rolled carbon steel plates for welded structure steel. This standard was developed to promote the effective use of welded structure steel by setting standards for the properties and sizes of welded structure steel plates. It also provides rules for welded structures made from such plates, such as the maximum permissible stress, the location of weld spots, allowed curvature on certain welded plates, and more.

The 1976 version of JIS G2319 is the fifth revision of this standard, which replaced the third revision of 1961. Notable changes in this version include updates on the types and categories of plates and rules related to the welding process, such as the amount of welding.

The purpose of JIS G2319 is to provide safe and proper welded structures by setting standards for structural steel plates. It covers hot rolled carbon steel plates that have a smooth surface. The plates must have strength, toughness, and excellent welding properties, making them ideal for being welded in construction projects.

It is important that the plates contain only small amounts of contaminants such as sulfur or phosphorus, as these will cause cracking or destabilization of the welded structure, which may lead to failure. The allowable sulfur content for plates covered by this standard is no more than 0.035%. The allowable phosphorus content is no more than 0.09%.

Alloys covered by JIS G2319-1986 for welded structure steel include: SAE J403 Mild Steel; SAE J404 Medium Carbon Steel; SAE J405 High Carbon Steel; SAE J411 Low Alloy Steel; and SAE J412 High Alloy Steel. The standard also sets allowable variations in the thickness, width, and length of the plate depending on the material used. The maximum allowable thickness for plates made of low carbon steel and with a hot-rolled surface is 6.5 mm.

Under JIS G2319, hot-rolled plates must show a hard and uniform structure, be free of cracks or scale, and have the edges of the plates cut evenly and accurately. They should also have the shape and size as prescribed in the standard.

The JIS G2319-1986 is a health and safety-related regulation that sets standards for the properties and sizes of welded structure steel plates; it also provides rules for welded structures made from such plates. This standard is based on Japanese industrial standards, and is an important tool for promoting effective use of welded structure steel in construction projects.
