Introduction
P235GH is a European specified steel for use in pressure vessels, boilers and heat exchangers. The composition of this steel makes it ideal for applications where elevated working temperatures are the norm and its used by fabricators throughout the oil, gas and petrochemical industry.
P235GH is a normalized carbon alloy steel and is available ex-stock from our warehouse with mill certification and stamping. This double certification is the higher of standard BS EN 10204:1991: 2.1 or 2.2.
Chemical Composition
P235GH is the EN chemical designation. It has a moderately high embodied energy and a moderately low tensile strength among wrought carbon or non-alloy steels. The graph bars on the material properties cards below compare P235GH steel to: wrought carbon or non-alloy steels (top), all iron alloys (middle), and the entire database (bottom). A full bar means this is the highest value in the relevant set. A half-full bar means its 50% of the highest, and so on.
P235GH defines the material, it is a EU established grade of carbon steel for use in the fabrication of boilers and pressure vessels. The composition of P235GH is essentially a carbon steel with added alloying elements, most of which have been tested as stated above.
Advantages and applications
P235GH is created for use in high pressure applications such as boilers, heat exchangers and petrochemical applications. It has all the same characteristics as other carbon steels and can be used at temperatures up to 400°C without any deformation or deterioration.
The main benefits of using P235GH include:
•Superior corrosion resistance: P235GH steel can withstand the corrosion of corrosive media and is ideal for applications exposed to salt water or other corrosive substances.
•High strength: P235GH steel has a high strength to weight ratio that makes it ideal for use in structures where strength is a primary consideration. This material also has good cold forming and hot-forming properties, which makes it easier to fabricate.
•Excellent weldability: P235GH is easily weldable and can be used for all types of welding methods.
•Resistance to fracture: P235GH steel has a high resistance to fracture and can withstand high pressure loads.
•Good resistance to erosion: P235GH steel has good resistance to erosion from high temperatures and harsh environments, making it an ideal material for some petrochemical applications.
•Low emissions: The low-emission properties of P235GH steel make it an ideal material for applications where emissions must be kept to a minimum.
Conclusion
P235GH steel is an excellent fabrication material for the production of pressure vessels, boilers and heat exchangers. Its strength and corrosion-resistant properties make it an ideal choice in demanding environments such as petrochemical and offshore applications. P235GH is available ex-stock with a mill certification and stamping, making it easier for engineers to quickly source the ideal material for their construction projects while ensuring they remain compliant with international regulations.
