10. Gear cutting machine tools
Gear cutting machine tools refer to various machine tools that process the gear teeth cutting method to process various types of gears. According to the cutting method is divided into three parts: gear milling machine (or gear shaping), gear hobbing machine and gear grinding machine.
a) Gear Milling Machine (or Gear Shaping):
This type of machine tool is mainly used to form the relief blade profile of the gear with a disc-shaped cutting tool. It can process gear teeth of various forms such as spur gear, bevel gear and helical gear. And it can cut gear of different Modular, Diametral, or Circular Pitch. The table of the gear milling machine is usually a rotary table, and the movement of the gear hobbing machine is mainly used for cutting.
b) Gear Hobbing Machine:
This type of machine tool is mainly used for large-volume production of gears in automobile, aviation and instrument industry. It adopts a cylindrical shaped cutting tool and rotates it in a workpiece to cut a spiral groove, and is equipped with a device that can ensure the accuracy of the flank form of the machined gear teeth.
c) Gear Grinding Machine:
This type of machine tool mainly uses grinding method to process the gear surface, and it can be divided into continuous generating grinding machine and discontinuous generating grinding machine. Generally, it is suitable for the precise finishing of special gear, which has high requirements on the precision and surface finish of the gear teeth.
