Biography of Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian Renaissance artist, innovator, scientist and thinker. He is best known for his works in art, such as the Mona Lisa, and his pioneering scientific studies. He was born in 1452 in Vinci, Italy, the illegitimate son of a notary, and raised by his father in a garden setting.
Leonardo is remembered largely for his genius as an artist and draftsman. He is famous for a wide range of artistic skills, from painting, sculpture and image-making, to inventing, engineering, architecture and documenting his inventions in his notebooks.

He was fascinated by the anatomy of the human body and was one of the first illustrators of the structure of the heart, veins and muscles. He produced findings on geology, hydrology, botany and civil engineering. He also conducted studies of movement, landing and flight.
