JIS (Japan Industry Standard) round electrodes rods are a type of electrode rod that has been approved by the Japan Industrial Standards Committee, and is widely used in welding and cutting applications in Japan.
JIS round electrode rods are produced in a variety of alloys and sizes, however, the most common size is 6mm diameter. In addition, JIS round electrode rods are also available in 8.0mm, 10.0mm, 12.0mm and 14.0mm diameter sizes. The standard length for JIS round electrode rods is 500mm.
JIS round electrodes rods are generally made from carbon steel or mild steel and are electrically conductive, ensuring a high level of accuracy during use in welding or cutting applications. The material used must have a minimum machinability of 80%, and must also have an elongation of at least 10%.
The manufacture of JIS round electrodes rods is done using a cold-forging process, which forms the rod into its desired shape and size, then adds a protective coating. The rod is then tested to ensure it meets the necessary Japanese Industrial Standard quality requirements. Due to the fact that they have been specifically developed to the JIS Standard, the quality and accuracy of the welds and cuts produced using JIS round electrodes rods is highly reliable. As such, they are widely used in Japan and are also becoming increasingly popular outside of the country.
