Fault and Solution to Common Safety Valve
Safety valves are widely used in industrial and civil purposes to protect machinery or systems from potential harms and accidents. The most frequent types are safety relief valves, pressure safety valves, back pressure safety valves and vacuum safety valves. In spite of their long-term service, faults and failures could occur due to their mechanical structure, material components and working environment. So it is necessary and crucial to recognize and eliminate the potential faults in time and make the safety valves in good condition.
1. Leaking and Wastage of medium
Leaking is a common fault for safety valves and it could be attributed to the structural problems of the valves or the unfitted medium. In the case of using incompatibel medium, the soft material in the valve body could be corroded, resulting in valve leakage and medium wastage. To solve this problem, the medium fuel should firstly be noted and then examined to find out irrelevant components. The medium should then exchange to the compatible one with the valves. In the situation of the structural fault, the safety valve should be polished to get rid of the burrs and the protruding surface; or reset the spring rigidity, exchange or repair the relevant parts of itself, or replace the new set of safety valves.
2. Valve Untight and Wrong Pressure-bearing
Uncorrected installation of valves or improper order selection of disc and medium could also cause untight valves and wrong pressure-bearing issue. This issue could mainly be caused by not selecting the right materials or wrong adjustment of some parameters, such as thread, resilience and rigidity. To solve this kind of problem, first the valve seat must be polished in a proper manner and select the relevant valve disc material accordingly. Then the spring should be properly adjusted with certain rigidity. After that, the activity and sealing performance of valves should be tested as well.
3. Jam Issue of Valves
To solve the jam issue of valves, the first step is to take apart the valve body and then remove dusts in it with special clean cloth. Besides, the back pressure might also cause the safety valve jam. So it should also be remembered that in case of reducing the back pressure might totally help to solve the jam issue. If the situation does not get better after the aforesaid steps, then thoroughly check other parts of the valves to find out if there is any damage or breakage, any deformation or enough corrosion in order to solve this issue.
In conclusion, in spite of regular check and maintenance, there exist some faults in safety valves due to their long-time service or other factors. Nevertheless, with the right diagnosis and solutions, the safety valves could keep running in order in time.
