Headquartered in Beijing, it serves as a major channel for the government to tap into domestic and international research resources for comprehensive, policy-oriented research to support Chinas social and economic development.

The DRCs research includes macroeconomic analysis, public policy studies, public sector reform, and structural economic reform. It is committed to providing important policy recommendations to the Chinese government. The Institute is composed of more than 180 professional researchers, project managers, and administrative staff members. Most of the research staff have doctorates or other advanced degrees, with international backgrounds and excellent project management skills.

The Institutes research focuses on six main areas: macroeconomic analysis; public policy studies; public sector reform; industrial structure and industry restructuring; economic structure and sectoral restructuring; and urban and rural development. The Institutes research focuses on the impact on economic growth, employment, living standards, educational and health outcomes, technological progress, and other economic and social outcomes.

In recent years, the Institute has undertaken a number of projects related to the public sector reform, public policy studies, and industry structure. These projects have focused on key sectors of the economy such as energy, environmental protection, and education, and areas such as public service delivery, public finance, and public sector staffing. The research results provide important reference for the government in formulating practical and effective measures.

The Institute also keeps track of the international academic discussions related to Chinas development, which can provide a broader perspective for our domestic reform. As part of the national academic network, the Institute actively promote international academic exchanges, encourage international collaboration and exchange, as well as introduce and discuss timely topics.

At present, the Institute has established collaborative research partnerships with key international think tanks, undertaken more than 30 research projects to provide policy advice to the Chinese government, and co-organized dozens of international seminars. Its main research areas include macroeconomic analysis, public policy studies, industry structure, economic fundamental reform, and urban and rural development.

The Institute strives to make significant contributions to the advancement of Chinas economic development and social stability. The Institute will continue to serve as a major think tank of the Chinese government, conducting research, advising the Chinese government on economic policies, and building research partnerships with leading international think tanks.
