Safety valves are the primary regulatory device in boilers and pressure vessels, mainly used to ensure the safe operation of boilers and pressure vessels by releasing the excessive pressure generated by boilers or pressure vessels during operation. Safety valves, as an important part of automation system, have become an indispensable product in many industries, making it an important element in the safe operation of boilers, pressure vessels and pipelines.

Nowadays, safety valve manufacturers have introduced various safety valves, such as pneumatic safety valve, bellows safety valve, temperature control safety valve and water hammer safety valve and so on. Different safety valves have different requirements for usage and installation. In order to facilitate customers to choose, improve the products standard level, provide customers with satisfactory products, the National Safety Valve Committee, together with many relevant organizations, has initiated or formulated the following standards and regulations:

1. The National Standard “General Technical Requirements for Safety Valves”, standard number is GB/T 6099-2012. This standard sets the general technical conditions and classification, selection and use requirements of safety valves. It mainly includes the general requirements of safety valves, classification, classification of safety valves according to different test pressure, ensurance of indicators such as temperature and pressure, requirements for installation and soft seal, requirements for fracture, fracture prevention, tests and trials and the special requirements for bellows safety valve.

2. The National Standard “Five Performance Test Method of Safety Valves”, standard number is GB/T 13107-2009. This standard puts forward the interrelated requirements of the five performance tests of safety valve. It mainly includes the requirements, definitions and test method of five performance tests of safety valve, that is: the flow rate test, the pressure holding test, the reseating pressure test, the strength of valve closing test, and the air leakage test.

3. The National Standard “Screw Thread Connector Safety Valves”, standard number is GB/T 13110-2009. This standard mainly specifies the technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules of screw thread connector safety valve terminal. It mainly includes the general requirements, structural characteristics, material requirements, pressure test, technical requirements for adhesive bonding and injection, air tightness test and test into requirements for safety valve.

4. The “High Pressure Testing Pressure Safety Valve Regulations”, standard number is JC/T 870-2010. It mainly specifies the requirements for high pressure test of forged steel safety valve and the test temperature, test pressure, test medium and test period for safety valves. It also describes the test items such as body, needle valve and stem of safety valve.

5. The National Standard “Electromagnetic Safety Valves”, standard number is GB/T 5247-1996. The standard states the categories, general conditions, materials, requirements of flow coefficient, pressure setting, test and marking of electromagnetic safety valve.

In addition, there are many country and local standards formulated and the industry standards formulated by industry organizations. In order to ensure the quality of safety valves produced by each manufacturer, these standards are commonly applied in the production and operation of safety valves, and each safety valves produced shall comply with the relevant requirements.

In summary, safety valves are an important product used for safe operation of pressure vessels, boilers and pipelines. It is necessary for everybody to choose suitable safety valve as per the requirement. These safety valves should also comply with the relevant standards and rules, in order to ensure the normal operation and safety of the system.
