Analysis of Failure Cases of Diesel Engine Oil Pump Basedon 2500 words
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze two failure cases of diesel engine oil pump in detail, which include oil pump abrasion and oil pump chain break. The causes of these two cases are mainly caused by improper maintenance, improper use and improper selection of materials, etc., in contrast to the materials and other relevant parameters used in the design of the appliances. In the end, it offers several preventive measures like selecting material carefully, strictly controlling working conditions, making periodic maintenance and so on, to prevent the occurrence of similar problems in the future.
Keywords: diesel engine oil pump, failure case, abrasion, chain break
1. Introduction
Diesel engine oil pump is an important device in diesel engine, which is composed of structural parts and components such as crankshaft, crankcase, connecting rod and piston, etc. It is mainly used to transport fuel from fuel tank to the fuel injection system and to lubricate every part of the engine. The performance of diesel engine oil pump directly determines the reliability and durability of the diesel engine. When the oil pump fails, the running state of diesel engine will be influenced seriously. To avoid similar problems in the future, it is necessary for acquaintance about the common failure cases of oil pump, with an aim to maintain the good running state of diesel engine.
2. Failure Case Analysis
In this paper, two failure cases of diesel engine oil pump, namely, oil pump abrasion and oil pump chain break, are discussed in detail.
2.1 Oil Pump Abrasion
The main cause of oil pump abrasion is improper selection of material. The hardness of the material should be selected correctly in order to prevent mechanical abrasion of the pump. Otherwise, the abrasion of oil pump also may be caused by long-term overload operation and improper maintenance of engine.
2.2 Oil Pump Chain Break
The main cause of oil pump chain breaking is the wear and fatigue of oil pump chain due to improper lubrication or too high load of oil pump operation. The accumulation of dust may accelerate the wear of the chain. During the normal operation of the engine to use the standard method to timing drive the oil pump, avoid forced start or overload operation, and carry out periodic preventive maintenance.
3. Prevention and Control Measures
In view of the two failure cases of diesel engine oil pump, it is necessary to take preventive measures like correct selection of material, strictly control working conditions, make periodic maintenance etc. to reduce the probability of such failures.
3.1 Correct Selection of Material
The material selection plays a crucial role in decreasing the probability of failure. Therefore, in order to extend the service life of oil pump, it is necessary to select materials with appropriate hardness to withstand the mechanical abrasion of pump.
3.2 Strict Control of Working Conditions
Strict control of the working conditions can also reduce the probability of failure. Working under overload and long-term overload operation can easily accelerate the wear and fatigue of oil pump chain, so it needs to strictly control the working conditions, like prohibiting forced startup and or preventing overload operation.
3.3 Periodic Maintenance
If the oil pump is equipped with chain drive, it is necessary to perform chain maintenance. The oil pump chain should be regularly checked and adjusted, and the accumulation of dust should be eliminated in timely. In addition, lubrication oil should also be changed regularly to reduce the probability of oil pump chain break.
4. Conclusion
In this paper, two common failure cases of diesel engine oil pump, namely oil pump abrasion and oil pump chain break, are discussed. The study finds that the main causes of these two kind of problems are improper selection of material, improper maintenance and overload. And are proposed several preventive measures, such as correct material selection, strict control of working conditions, periodic maintenance, etc. Through the above analysis and prevention measures, it is hopeful that similar failure cases can be avoided in the future.
