Finland, officially the Republic of Finland, is a Nordic country located in Northern Europe. It is bordered by Sweden to the west, Norway to the north, and Russia to the east. The majority of Finns reside in the southern part of the country, with a sixth of the population living in the capital city of Helsinki.

Finland was an integral part of the Swedish Realm for centuries, becoming an autonomous Grand Duchy of Russia in 1809. In 1917, during the Finnish Civil War, Finland declared its independence from Russia, and was later recognized by the Soviet Union. Since then, Finland has experienced rapid economic growth, becoming one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
