Special Steel Bearings

Steel bearings are an important part of many industrial machines and production systems, providing smooth and precise operations. Special steels are used to manufacture steel bearings in order to achieve the right balance of strength, durability and wear resistance. Special steel bearings are usually manufactured with a high level of tolerance, ensuring they not only function properly but also last longer in a variety of operating conditions.

The hot rolling process is used to manufacture special steel bearings. It involves working with heated steel, using rollers to press the metal until the desired size and shape are achieved. This process allows for greater control and precision in the shape of the bearing, which is important for smooth and efficient operation. The hot rolling process also allows for the steel to be hardened and tempered to the necessary degree, ensuring that the bearing will retain its strength and durability in different operating environments.

Once the special steel is cooled and cut to size, the components for the bearing can be assembled. Most common steel bearings consist of a series of components, like races, balls, and retaining rings, which all work in tandem to provide precise and efficient performance. The components are cut and machined to precise tolerances, allowing them to create a uniform bearing with equal load distribution, maximizing performance and wear resistance.

Once the necessary components are produced the bearing can be assembled. The bearings are usually put together in a clean and dust free environment, free of contaminants, to minimize tolerances and maintain bearing precision. Special steel bearings are often lubricated to minimize friction, which can cause premature wear, and to reduce the amount of heat generated in the bearing during operation.

Once assembled, the bearings are tested for functionality and performance. Tests are done to ensure that the bearing has the ability to handle the load of the machine and the speed of operation. It is also tested for accuracy and wear resistance. Special steel bearings are often subjected to vacuum and liquid testing to ensure the bearing can withstand extreme environments and temperatures.

The most important aspect of special steel bearings, other than performance, is the ability to last for many years, even in harsh operating environments. The steel and components used are treated in order to reduce corrosion and wear and ensure precision operation. Special steel bearings have a longer operational life than standard steel bearings, allowing them to provide reliable and efficient performance in a variety of applications.

Special steel bearings are used in many industries and applications including aerospace, defense, heavy machinery, medical and automotive. Due to the variety of capabilities of the bearing, such as heat, corrosion, and wear resistance, they can handle extreme environments and temperatures, resulting in optimal and efficient performance. Their versatility allows them to be used in various applications, ensuring they can provide excellent performance and longevity.

Special Steels for Bearings

Bearings are important components of all kinds of machinery, including automobiles, aircraft and ships, and are one of the main supporting elements. Therefore, bearing steel is one of the important categories of the steel industry. Bearing steel is usually used to make various parts of the bearing, such as inner and outer rings and rolling elements, and its hardness and abrasion resistance are very important. Bearing steel must have good performances, such as high-temperature strength, ideal fatigue behavior and sufficient toughness under extreme conditions.

High-carbon chromium bearing steel is the standard bearing steel used in the bearing industry, but no single steel can meet the needs of all bearing components, so a variety of other special steels are being developed. Depending on the specific application of the bearing, special steel is used which include low alloy steel, medium alloy steel, spring steel, nitriding steel, martensite stainless steel, martensite nitrogen steel, bainite-bearing steel, and dual-phase steel, etc.

Low alloy steel includes 0.45 ~ 0.55%C and 0.90 ~ 1.10%Cr bearing steel, and its microstructure consists of uniform carbide particles and small amount of pearlite. Due to its good thermal fatigue resistance and antifriction performance, this steel can be used to manufacture heavy-load bearing components.

Medium alloy steel consists of 0.85 ~ 1.25%C and 1.30 ~ 1.60%Cr bearing steel, and its microstructure normally is pearlitic and martensitic. Its strength is 1.5 times of the high-carbon chromium bearing steel, and its strain ability is particularly good.

Nitriding steel is a kind of bearing steel which has been treated at a temperature from 400 ~ 500°C and with a nitriding media such as ammonia or nitrogen. The nitriding layer produced on the surface is smoother than other treatments, and the components of bearing ring and rolling elements can be simplified, resulting in lower manufacturing costs. Moreover, the hardness of nitriding steel surface layer can be enhanced by 30%.

Dual phase steel has a dual phase microstructure which includes both ferrite and martensite. The matrix phase is tempered hardening, which makes the steel has higher strength and better processibility, and it can be used in high-speed operation condition.

Martensite stainless steel has a microstructure including martensite, bainite and a small amount of ferrite. The steel can replace the traditional bearing steel such as GCr15 and SUJ2 in some occasions.

All in all, bearing steel is an important type of special steel, and a variety of special steels have been developed for the manufacture of different bearings.
