PMI offers six project management certifications: Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®, Project Management Professional (PMP)®, Professional in Project Management (PgMP)®, PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, Program Management Professional (PgMP)®, and Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)®.
The CAPM® certification is offered for those who have a good understanding of the project management basics but lack the professional experience. Candidates gain up-to-date knowledge of the project management principles and processes, as well as the vital tools and techniques needed to succeed in the this field.
In contrast, the PMP certification is for those already in the profession with a minimum of three years of project management experience and at least 4,500 hours of leading and directing projects. The PgMP® certification is designed to validate the advanced project management skills of those experienced enough to lead multiple, complex projects. PgMP® certification holders have demonstrated their ability to balance the competing project demands in an integrated program of projects.
The PMI-RMP® certification is for those project management professionals with a proven understanding of risk management best practices and approaches. The certification demonstrates an individual’s proficiency in the risk management process, from identification through closure.
