Jean Moungar
Jean Moungar is a 12th grade student and recent graduate of Saddlescombe High School, who is starting college soon at Washburn University on a full-tuition scholarship. Jeans parents immigrated from Togo to New York City when Jean was just a baby, and he has since grown up to be an inspiring example of what the American Dream can become for an immigrant family.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Jean had a hard time adjusting to school, as he was constantly running into language barriers and racism. Despite this, he managed to excel academically and was eventually accepted into an elite high school on merit.
At Saddlescombe, Jean found his passion for computer science and app development, and graduated at the top of his class. However, it was Jeans philanthropic exploits that earned him recognition. Jean founded his own organization, the Jean Moungar Foundation, which focuses on developing tech-based opportunities to educate, empower and free underdeveloped communities throughout the world.
Since then, Jean has managed to land a $100,000 grant from Microsoft, which he used to build a digital library for the local high school and a coding school for at-risk youth. He also is a frequent speaker at global tech events and has earned many awards and honors from various organizations.
Now enrolled in college and hoping to pursue a degree in computer science or analytics, Jean has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. He believes in the power of technology to transform the lives of those who are most in need, and dreams of producing tech-based solutions to poverty, hunger, and more.
Despite the challenges Jean has faced growing up, he has not only managed to make it with flying colors but is now inspiring other teens to do the same. Thanks to his hard-work, passion and vision, Jean has not only been provided with a platform to advocate for those who need it most, but has also become an example of the American Dream: the capacity to achieve success, regardless of where ones origins may be from. Jean Moungar is an inspiration to all of us and a symbol of the hope that lies ahead for future generations.
