Glo-separator
Glo-separator is an important piece of equipment used in the petroleum industry. The purpose of a Glo-separator is to separate oil from water in a crude oil tank. This is a common operation for oil and gas producers, as it helps them to maximize the amount of usable oil and minimizes the amount of water present in the tank. This also helps to reduce the cost of processing the crude oil by reducing the amount of water that must be removed or treated.
Glo-separators are generally constructed of either steel or concrete and often have a cylindrical shape with a long pipe at one end that projects out into the tank. The separation process is generally divided into two parts: a centrifugal force that is generated by the device, and a coalescing filter which is used to separate the two liquids.
The centrifugal force is generated by spinning the device at a high speed, which causes the heavier liquid (oil) to be forced out of the tank and the lighter liquid (water) to remain inside. This is done by using a rotating motor, which is connected to the bottom of the device. The centrifugal force is then directed downwards so that the heavier liquid will be forced out of the tank while the lighter liquid remains inside.
The coalescing filter is then used to further separate the two liquids, as it allows the heavier oil to pass through the filter but not the lighter water. This is done by trapping the oil in a web of fine filter material so that it can be retrieved from the tank and be further processed.
Glo-separators are an essential piece of equipment for petroleum companies to use in order to maximize their output of usable oil and minimize the amount of water in their tanks. They are also important for helping to reduce the cost of processing crude oil, as they allow for a more efficient way of separating oil from water.
