Henry Fayol was a French mining engineer, industrialist, and management thinker. He developed a general theory of business administration that was influential in the development of modern management. This theory focused on five (5) important functions of managers in creating an efficient organizational structure. These five functions of management, also known as “Fayolism,” are planning, organizing, command, coordination and control.

Planning:

The first function of management is planning. This involves creating and developing a long-term strategy for the organization. It also involves setting short-term objectives and formulating policies to achieve those objectives. This function also involves making decisions about how to best use the organization’s resources.

Organizing:

The second function of management is organizing. This entails creating a framework within the organization, including division of labor, delegation of authority and coordination of activities. This function also involves allocating resources to accomplish organizational objectives.

Command:
