Abstract

Cemented carbide is a kind of hard alloy made by powder metallurgy. It is widely used in machining and cutting tools, such as drills, milling cutters and reamers. With the rapid development of production and application, the amount of cemented carbide waste has increased drastically. Therefore, it is very important to carry out the recycling of cemented carbide. This paper introduces the recycling process of cemented carbide and the current status of its recycling.

1 Introduction

Cemented carbide is a kind of hard material whose main chemical compounds are, WC (tungsten) ,CO (cobalt). and (Ti)TiN. It is made by powder metallurgy and is known for its good comprehensive properties such as high hardness, good wear resistance, good thermal stability and good impact resistance. Its production and application have a long history. At present it is widely used in cutting, drilling, drilling and reaming machining tools, and its consumption has been increasing year by year. Due to the ever-increasing consumption of cemented carbide, the quantity of cemented carbide waste has also been increasing massively, which is extremely harmful to the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to recycle and reuse the cemented carbide waste.

2 Recycling rules

The most common method of recycling of cemented carbide is the solvent extraction method. Firstly, the old cemented carbide gradually dissolved in organic solvent and trace organic solvent; secondly, under the action of ultrasonic wave, the organic solvent enters the cemented carbide particles and leaches out the useful rare elements in the cemented carbide and form an organic solution; Thirdly, the organic solution is then further treated through distillation , crystallization, filtration and other processes to separate and refine all the useful elements, and finally obtain the rare elements and reuse them.

3 Current status of recycling

With the increasing development of modern cemented carbide cutting tools, the amount of cemented carbide waste produced is also increasing. In order to realize the recycling of cemented carbide and reduce the environment pollution caused by cemented carbide waste, some enterprises in the industry have taken the lead in introducing the recycling and utilization technology of cemented carbide, and it is believed that this technology will get further and more thorough development and application in the near future. The government should also take measures to better supervise the industry and promote the reasonable recycling and use of cemented carbide waste.

4 Conclusion

Cemented carbide is an important industrial material and its application industry is developing rapidly. However, the amount of cemented carbide waste also increases drastically and brings serious environmental pollution. In order to solve this problem, on the one hand, enterprises should actively introduce the recycling of cemented carbide and reuse the rare elements in the waste; on the other hand, the government should take corresponding measures to better promote the reasonable use and recycling of cemented carbide waste.
