When it comes to workplace quality, everyone in the organization has an important role to play. Quality is not just the responsibility of the quality assurance team; it’s a collective effort that ensure that excellence is achieved in all facets of an organization. Here are five strategies and tips to help you start improving quality in the workplace.

First and foremost, establish a culture of customer-focus. Quality improvement starts with the customer at the center of your approach. Evaluate the customer experience you currently offer and work to enhance it. Employ customer feedback surveys to help you; look into customer complaints and use their feedback to identify areas to improve.

Second, ensure your staff has the necessary tools and resources to be successful. This includes infrastructure, documentation, and tools. Have a program in place to upskill staff, to stay on top of new developments and advancements for continuous quality improvement.

Third, organize your quality structures. Start by training your staff on quality processes and procedures and implement a quality management system. Fourth, employ the PDCA system to monitor quality. The PDCA system is an iterative process that includes four steps: Plan, Do, Check, and Act. The idea is to plan, then implement, and then measure progress. Based on the data gathered, make adjustments to keep improving your results.

Finally, simplify your processes. When possible, look for ways to streamline processes and reduce waste. Look for that sweet spot between complete adherence to a process and efficiency. Lean process thinking is aimed at avoiding overworking and instead, doing just enough.

These five strategies to improve workplace quality are a great starting point.
