After Desulfurization, Iron Water Can Be Transferred to the Converter

Iron water is an important raw material in steel making, after desulfurization, it can enter the converter, but it is necessary to pour off slag before entering the converter.

The main purpose of desulfurization is to reduce the sulfur content in the iron water. The specific process is: first, the converter is shut down before feeding and the ladle is heated up to start feeding. After feeding for about 15 minutes, the furnace lid is opened and the slag is tapped. The molten iron water in the ladle is transferred to the converter, and then the converter is started to convert the molten iron water. Generally, desulfurization process and tapping process are completed at one time.

The purpose of tapping slag before converter is mainly pre-filled refining, that is to protect the lining of the converter and reduce the damage caused by high sulfur content. Because of the large amount of sulfur in the iron water, it will corrode the lining of the converter during smelting, which will cause a series of environmental problems and great economic losses. Therefore, tapping slag is necessary to remove impurities and reduce the sulfur content of molten iron water.

It is a common operation unit carrying out tapping slag. Before tapping slag, the temperature of molten iron water should be measured. The working temperature of gold water is generally 1530~1550℃. The slag should be poured off when the temperature of the molten iron water is low, usually below 1500℃. When tapping slag, the slag outlet should be opened first, and when pouring off the slag, the slag should be paid attention to avoid scalding and dropping inlet impurities. The slag should not flow too fast, otherwise it will increase the damage to the converter and affect the smelting effect; nor should it be too slow to cause heat exchange with the molten iron water. Generally, it takes about 2 to 3 minutes to pour the whole slag.

In addition, when tapping slag, it is necessary to observe the phenomenon of iron water. If there is bubble boiling phenomenon, indicating that the liquid metal is being oxidized, it should be stopped in time and the feeding process should be stopped. After the tapping slag, the furnace can be turned on and the iron water can enter the converter.

It should be emphasized that the tapping slag process is extremely important, and an experienced operator is required in tapping slag. Therefore, the slag should be performed in strict accordance with the process, and the qualified iron water should be confirmed before entering the converter. This can not only ensure that the iron water has a high smelting rate, but also protect the converter lining.
